Moving to NC later this year
« on: April 22, 2013, 06:26:36 pm »
Hi,

My name is Tony.  I am in the military and moving to Ft. Bragg this year.  I have been looking for a fishing club to join and wanted to see what this club is all about.  I am a nonboater at the moment, from all the moving around, but I am planning to change all that soon after returning to the U.S.  I have never fished a tournament, and am an average fisherman at best, but I love the sport and want to improve my skills so that I can try to join bigger tournaments after I retire from the military.  I am looking for a group of people that share the interests of just helping each other become better anglers and people.  I am very competitive, but I am no sore loser, I believe that if someone wins over me, it is my duty to congradulate them and get a little insight on what they did to make me a little better.  I would like to know about how far from Ft Bragg you guys are based and would it be a reasonable idea that I could join and compete with a military schedule.  I will be arriving in December or Jan at the latest so I will likely miss this year, but I am trying to get there this summer, since my kids will be in school.  Any information would be helpful.  Thank you for your time.

V/R,

Anthony Langley

Hi,

First thanks for checking us out and for serving our country!

We have a good group of guys.  We're in our 2nd full year now and are made up from a mix of active duty & retired military (USA & USAF), and some of the local residents of Fayetteville and Raleigh areas. Most of us live within 20 mins of Ft Bragg. Once you get here you'll see how the lakes are, but there are small ponds in and around Ft Bragg that are simply too small and in my opinion too poor of fish quality to fish tournaments on.  That said we do not actually fish in Fayetteville but instead some of the larger lakes around us.  We fish 4 lakes, Harris (about 35 mins away from Ft Bragg), Jordan Lake (about 45 mins away), Wheeler (60 mins away), and Falls Lake ( 75 mins away). We have tried our hardest to keep the tournament locations as local as possible while at the same time fishing some of North Carolina's best lakes.  For example, most everyone agrees (along with all the fishing magazines) that Harris Lake is the best lake in the state. It also happens to be one of the closest lakes to us so out of the 12 tournaments we fish each year, we fish it 6 times...

I also want to let you know that this club is great to learn tournament fishing.  We share all of our info with each other.  For example, you'll find that our tournament winners dont hide secret lures or secret spots.  We're pretty open and our goal is to help each other. We're not a big money club, an entire year's membership and tournament fees is $150, so we're about the fun and the camaraderie.

Please keep in touch with us.  We would love to have you come out and fish!!!! If you have any other questions about the fishing around here or about the club give me a call: 910 603 6223

I just found out that I will be PCSing to Pope field in March. As I get settled in I would love to see what you fellas are about. Right now I am in San Antonio and the fishing in south Texas is pretty awesome. I am looking forward to getting into a different area though and learning a few new tricks.

Please let me know if you are accepting new members. I own a boat. I was reading your bylaws and said you were limited to 20 people and a ratio of 3:1.

See ya when I get there.
