Fish Finder ?
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:12:18 pm »
Ok I have come to the concluesion that my electronics just don't work for me as well as I would like them to and that I need to update them.

I talked to my wife and explained to her why I need to update and she agrees to let me get a new fish finder.

I am going to do my homework before I run out and get one, so do you all have any suggestions on what to get.

I want to be able to see a clear bottom. If I am looking at a rock or tree that is what I want to see on the screen.

Yea Ron I need u to educate me on how to use mine, I don't understand what all the readings are and have trouble telling what the fish returns are, I also don't know what my settings should be on as far as the levels of the returns go, it's frustrating because I spent so much money on it and can't figure the stupid thing out, even after watching the cd that came with it twice

Clint, I recently went through the same mind numbing thought and research.  Ron is right when he says that the information out there is loaded with hype.  I'm not trying to sale a product here, but I decided to go with the Lowrance HDS, (should be here this week).  Prior to buying though, I researched on line but I made my decision on face to face word-of-mouth research.  Whether I was at BPS, Gander Mountain, Dicks, Walmart, I harassed other customers for their opinions on what they used.  Knowing I wanted the side imaging, everything and people talked about better imaging with the Lowrance.   But.....when it came to the down imaging it seemed that Humminbird got the better remarks.

Ron, when you hold your first "Insiders Guide to Your Fishfinder" class, let me know so I can attend

Hey Ron, I like your Lawrence but have never had a chance to get a good look at it and what all it does. I am off tomorrow do you think I could come over and we drop the boat in the "public" pool down from your house and try it out..LOL

I have been reading and looking at the difference between all the models and what they offer. I am still confused. I do know I want a Lowrance, but after that I am so lost..

Lost is understatement for me. If you don't mind Clint, what do you have now? Anything is better than what I have now. Wife bought mine not knowing what needed & front came with boat. Had problem with newer this weekend. Anything better than what I have would be a plus.

I think I have found what I want. The Lowrance HDS7 touch Gen2...

I went to Lowrance web site and looked at all the hype and so on. I found the HDS7 touch but when I look at the info on it I can not tell what all is built into the unit...

That's what I mean Ron, it is so hard to tell what they all come with. I don't want to buy something and then get home and find out I need another grand to add what I tough I just spent a grand on had it.

Back to the books for me...

Only reason I'm asking is if you need to sell old unit and something I might need and willing to work it out, might take off your hands. Anything is better than what came with boat.

I have seen the top of the line HB's and Lowrance.  They are both top notch.  I personally would probably go HB for 2 reasons.  Little better picture and customer service.  Good luck and like Ron stated... check out BBC (Bass Boat Central) You can get some great deals and knowledge on that site.
