WARNING! Lowrance HDS7 GEN2 Touch Structure Scan
« on: March 04, 2013, 06:24:42 pm »
So I go to Gander Mtn. today to look at the ram mounts they have. While I am there I started talking the Brad. Brad is a electronics guy and knows alot about all the units. We got to talking and asked if I have gotten the the structure scan transducer yet. I said yea it's all built into one unit. He said no you have to get another transducer for the structure scan. I called Lowrance and they confirmed that you do.

I am so Grrrr cause I asked over and over are you sure this unit has every thing I need  and was told yes by two different employees.

Now I have to fork out another $300.00 for this transducer...

I knew you were going to say told you so Ron...lol

I am starting to understand how all this linking units, Side scan, Structure scan, mapping, and so on works.

I will be leaving the house soon to go pick the transducer I need up in Sandford after explaining to my wife rhe best way I know how she gave me the ok to spend the extra cash...

Well I went to Chatlee Marine in Sandford right off hwy 1.

I went to get the transducer I was missing and after talking with the parts manager he made me a off I could not refuse.

Lowrance has a $300.00 rebate on the HDS7 GEN2 units that are in a combo package. I got it all including the structure scan box and transducer for $1549.00. Now I Just mail in the rebate form and they send me $300.00 back in 8 to 10 weeks and I will only have $1249.00 inversted instead of $1800.00. I just saved $500.00 ;D

Well Ron I look at it like this...

The HDS7 Gen2 Touch $1599.99 Plus  structure scan transducer another $260.00 I would of had $2008.68 invested.

The HDS7 Gen2 package includes the HDS7 , Structure scan box, and structure scan transducer was $1549.99  plus tax $1673.98 out the door.

Take the $300.00 rebate off and I only have $1373.98 invested.

I know I don't have a touch unit but the unit I have does the say thing as the touch. By returning the touch and getting the one I have $634.70 in my pocket I did not have before...

So in the end I have gotten a unit that does everything I want for less...

No I don't play the lottery....

Ron

The cable that connects into the HDS7 PWR/DATA port have 2 black wires coming out and in 1 black wire there are 5 wires in it... A Green, Yellow, Orange, Blue, and a wire with no cover on it.

Where do these wire go to or connect to?

Ok so run the black and red to a 12v power source. Yellow  does not of to and thing.
The other set of wires orange, green, yellow, blue etc. Go to nothing.

The power wires out of the LLS to 12v source.

Do I run both transducers to the structure scan box or just the big transducer and the small to the DHS

Sounds to me it would be easier and less stress to just have someone "Qualified" just install it.  Plus then if something goes wrong you can blame it on them.  On a side note anyone know how much a place like Chatlee or Pitstop Marine charge to do an install?

Mac I am doing it myself cause I want to know how it all works and what goes where. If I am out and something goes wrong I know where to start trouble shooting.

I was told it would cost right at $500.00 at Chatlee.

KC Marine installed James' side scan for about a $100 from what I recall.
